Managed to break my mech hanger and bend the cage on my NX mech earlier today.
What's the likelihood of being able to bend the cage back? Is it a case of needing to be extremely precise for decent shifting?
Have ordered a new hanger but mechs seem to be in short supply. Don't suppose anyone has an NX derailleur cage lying around or else a complete 12 speed derailleur they'd be interested in selling?
Cheers.
I did the same, and it bent back fairly well. It weakened it though, and a similar incident a couple of months later resulted in it snapping.
Remember that 12 speed Shimano mechs work just as well, and are compatible.
Wouldn't I need to change to a Shimano shifter to run a Shimano rear mech though?
You’d probably get away with a Shimano mech with the Sram cassette and shifter. Lots of people seem to. Deore is cheap if you can find one.
Or buy a new GX Eagle mech - I picked one up a week or so ago online - Corley Cycles had them in stock.
Cheers Joe. Looks like they're out of stock now. Will keep looking.
I found NX rear mechs very fragile, replaced under warranty then replaced with GX, when that died I just went to shimano & been fine ever since
Get a GX one, but in the meantime you’ve nothing to lose by having a go at straightening it. Aluminium I presume. Apply a bit of gentle heat first and do it a bit at a time so you’re not over stressing the metal. This is assuming it’s not bent 90 degrees that is - in which case you’re stuffed!
I replaced mine with an SLX mech, after it self-destructed. Works fine with the Sram shifter and isn’t as bulky and in the way. Shifting is better too, imho.
Thanks for the replies. Have found a Deore 12 speed derailleur in stock so may go for that if it will work okay with my SRAM shifter.
