I have 2x11 ultegra on my gravel bike. If i look into the front mech cage as im pedalling, the chain moves from the inside to the outside in time with each crank revolution.
So do i have a bent chainring, a bent mounting spider, or a problem where the axle is not square in the rest of the chainset?
More likely the latter 2 I'd have thought.
How bad is it?
Well i can trim it out with the mid position on the front shifter, but it does move a lot in the cage. I have an issue where it sometimes over shifts and drops off the outer ring. This may be caused by thaat i guess.
They’re notorious for breaking at the spider, check them carefully for cracks and google it to see what you’re looking for - if yours are on the way out better to catch it now!
Think shimano have beeen replacing them foc.
