So I'm bungling round my local trails on my new TO ME full suss an I get to a familiar climb that I can clean sometimes and not others, so it's on my limit I would say.
Its my first bike with a 1x10 set up so im keen to nail it first time out so I'm grinding it out picking my lines and trying to get traction on some roots when I'm going too slow and grind to a halt front wheel in the bushes, It's happened before and no doubt it will happen again.

I walk to the top (just 15Yards) mount and head off to the horid clattering noise.
Closer inspection reveals a well bent E13 42T extender ring.

Now I'm a big chap, 6ft2 and 18 stone have I bent it putting too much through the pedals?

As far as im aware I didn't change gear on the climb (under strain) and I rode it to a point where i was going so slow i wobbled into the bush I didn't stop because the bive war claniging away.

I need to replace it either way so does anyone know of a beefier 42 teeth offering?

The Hope one is pretty beefy, but they are all pretty much unsupported workarounds and easy to bend given how large they are. Could have been a stick got in there, or a rock, or excess manliness, or just bad luck.

for the price of one of them, i'd consider spending the extra and 1x11 it with XT, MUCH stronger, better etc.

Praxis Works do a proper 11-40 10 speed cassette. Might be a better bet.

Or this - http://www.bikeman.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BIKEMAN&Product_Code=BTI-UQ4494. I've you've got someone to get it over the Atlantic. Mega cheap too!

I bent my one up 42t so far over that it blocked off the next two gears. I careful bent it back and it run OK for about a year since. To be fair, I don't user the bone it's one weekly, but when I do it does see some fair hammer.

A mate of mine bent a Hope 42T one, and he's no big lad. He's bent it back and it's been OK since, but if he can bend one then it suggests they're not particularly robust. Wasn't there a company doing a Stainless Steel one? Maybe Wolftooth?
