I'm planning a hastily organised ride up and down Ben Lomond on Monday. Any tips in general? Especially best route to take up and down - I can see there are two marked paths on the os map and on trailforks - not sure which is the best to choose? We would ideally go up the route we'd plan to come down so we can a) check it out and b) bail if we run short on time or energy. Anyone done it recently and know what the conditions are like? How long did it take you?

took me 3 hours to get to the top and I'm pretty unfit. You want to either do it late evening or very early morning. It gets very crowded. Given the rain recently I would expect it to be moist.

Route to take

Perfect thanks.

Was there much pushing and/or carrying on the way up?

It's pretty much all pushing and carrying on the up. There's a more rideable bit in the middle.

If you are fit enough then there is a lot you can cycle up. some bits you physically can't cycle up or over.

I’m odd, but I prefer the descent from Ptarmigan more so than the actual BL descent. Mainly because I haven’t the skills for the top or technical middle bits of the proper descent.
