In Sweden this weekend and saw a pair of Trek bikes with belt drives. Looked very sorted, they were on retro looking commuter bikes.
Advantages/cons?

Pros
Ease of maintenance - i.e. no need for lube
Clean - no lube, no mess. Ideal for commute bikes
Durable and strong
Light
Actually perform very well in muddy conditions!
Cons
not as versatile as chain drive, ie changing gearing
not trail fixable

They had one in my LBS, looked pretty cool imo.

Thats the one and one that had a Nexus Hub on as well. Very pretty bikes.
