[#3554858]

Need to replace BB bearings and have been having a look around and found these.

and these.

And am left wondering what the difference is.
Anyone know or have other suggestions?

The Ebay one won't be stainless steel which should rule it out straight away. There are some stainless ones on Ebay though.

I'd email kaesae on here - he sells good quality bearings which he fills with his secret formula of grease. They work a treat.

He's also a top bloke in my own personal experience.

Your CRC link looks like it'll only go to the front page, but actually isn't broken at all.

As to the difference... There might be one, there might not, really no way of knowing. I usually buy known name bearings- SKF, FAG, Koyo and INA are ones I trust... But they can be pricy.

So I got some cheap 6805s a while back, 5 of them cost less than a single SKF. None of em had enough grease in (this could be controversial, but they lacked even the traditional half-fill, and were inconsistently filled to boot) 2 were dead on arrival, already felt worn out. 1 lasted all of a week. The other 2 are still in my hubs months later and are doing fine.

So it's worked out but maybe next time, it won't. And changing bearings isn't exactly onerous but it's a hassle I can live without.

Nah! The comment came while I was fixing them. 😉

I got some boxed ones off ebay which weren't skf or any of the well known brands, they work fine but as above it is a bit of a risk I guess. Box is yellow and blue but I can't remember the make, taiwanese or chinese IIRC

Whatever bearing you get its well worth the effort in prising one of the dust seals off and packing more grease in there. It will make a difference!
Alternatively go to www.akbearings and search for 6805 2RS (or 61805 2RS same thing) and take your pick. There were some cheapo ones on there for £1.60ea or some SKFs (or FAGs, can't remember) for about £8)

+ another for kaesae, they arrived today and have been fitted. Once the rear mech has been fitted and indexed it should be good to go.

Thanks for your help.
