i know this has been done before in great shouty detail but i need a basic opinion
wife's ventana needs new bearing throughout (16 in total!)
ebay = £13 for 10, giving £26 for 10 of each side leaving 4 spare
BETD = £47 for enduro bearing kit
LBS (unnamed) = £5 each giving £80 PLUS fitting!
i went the ebay route (all double sealed), am i likely to see a significant difference in bearing longevity given that they are suspension bearings and only ever move through a few degrees?
Go fleabay it's only the Missus bike...
Pack them with a good quality grease (eg Silkolene RG2).
Good point about "only ever move through a few degrees", though I'd still pay for a decent branded bearings (SKF/FAG/INA,etc - £8 each IME) from a local bearing supplier.
You'll not find me buy any unbranded bearings, there rubbish pure & simple.
Purely down to the fact that fitting the buggers a 2nd time (if you got cheap bearings & they failed quickly) would off-set any of the saving you made in the 1st place.
The BETD price ain't bad but I've no experience of the enduro kits - they may well be worth a pop.
sadly at over £100 more for SKF etc they'd have to fail pretty quickly to be economical (my time is cheap)
one of the issues is that the bearings cannot be serviced in the frame as the seals are not accessible on most of the bearings
U get what you pay for buddy, always buy branded SKF etc, and always pack with decent grease prior to fitting,
they last a lot longer that way.
ok, i'll pack em before i fit them and see how it goes. going to be a complete **** to fit as they are all doubled up 😕
