Hi all.
Stumpjumper for xc old bike - the driveside end the chainstay moves in and out about 3-4mm. I thought it was the hub at first but can see and move the chainstay in and out with my fingers. It doesn't move up and down, just side to side. Anyone used to have these bikes know or can chip in and put my mind at rest that all it needs is a new bearing? Phoned the local bike shop and they said it might be toast if the bolt and nut are tight which they are. ๐ Anyone know how common this is and if they experienced something similar in the past.
Any help much appreciated and if you used to own one please chip in with a solution to the movement. I don't know as I'm no mechanic but normally if a bearing is dead isn't it supposed to feel solid and hard to move with a slight knocking rattle rather than a 3-4mm movement side to side I'm experiencing which could indicate a more serious frame damaging issue.
??? hope that's clear. Photo of the part that moves from a link I found (different year but same horst link concept -
