Where can I read about his SAS credentials being inflated?

Chris Ryan from a newspaper article a few years ago:

Gulf War veteran Ryan even says he doesn’t believe Grylls broke his back on an SAS operation in Africa.

And the ex-soldier – who served on the notorious Bravo Two Zero mission in the first Gulf war in Iraq – viciously laid into 34-year-old Grylls for taking the plaudits while real servicemen suffered.

Ryan explained: “I’ve got respect for Ray Mears because he’s very,very knowledgeable in his craft.

“Bear Grylls goes on and on about an operation in Africa.

“He tells people he broke his back on an operation but I don’t know where in Africa he would be doing an operation.

“Nobody has been able to tell me that. I’ve spoken to several guys who were regimental sergeant majors and instructors in the regimental SAS but none of them could remember this operation.

“And I just think, ‘**** you, mate, there’s guys dying in Afghanistan and Iraq. You have to earn that beret’.”

It's all publicly available info. I'm not taking anything away from the bloke, he passed TA special forces selection. Whilst its not comparable to regular selection, it ain't easy. He did 3 years (1 of which was his training), so 2 years service with the TA SAS. Lofty wiseman did 27 years regular service in the SAS and ended up a squadron sergeant major. Theyre not even in the same division.

I was on a plane to Iceland, full of British GCSE geography field trippers. Bear and Jake Gylenhall (Gryll'n'Hall?) were in 1st Class, off to film something in the windy snowy bit in the middle.

Jake stayed in 1st Class, Bear came out to lap up the adulation of the kiddies. Looked like he was really enjoying himself.

Bear came across a bit better in the series where he was showing celebrities round, seemed a bit calmer and more compassionate. Not quite convinced he isn't a bellend, though.

Bit about Bruce, as we're talking military records:

After finishing at Wells Cathedral School Parry entered the Royal Marines and successfully completed training at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre. He was then selected by the Admiralty Interview Board and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant at the age of 18.

He served as a Troop Commander in 40 Commando of 3 Commando Brigade and was deployed to Norway. Parry along with 40 Commando was then redeployed to Iraq and he served in a security and humanitarian capacity in Iraqi Kurdistan for Operation Provide Comfort during and after the First Gulf War.[6][7] He then specialised as Physical Training Instructor. At 23 years old, he became the youngest officer ever to be made Head of Fitness and Training for the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre. Bruce Parry left the service as a Lieutenant after six years.

Given the choice, I'd rather be stuck out somewhere with Bruce, at the very least beacuse I think he'd be more interesting to talk to. I do respect his work on rights of indigenous tribes.

Seriesesss''ss' well worth watchng are "Amazon" and "Arctic" looking at the impact of globalization/climate change/resource exploitation on indigenous tribes. Very interesting and even handed look at the lives of people on the ground on all sides.

Everything I've read says he broke it in a Sky diving accident, not much saying it was on operations.

grylls is a muppet who has never instructed on any course on a weekend at Regents Park with all his other Muppett mates, he's not capable of passing an annual weapons test let alone deploy to a Hostile envioronment and be trusted to be deployed without ****ing up. DSF has not deployed these jokers for years and all the blokes at H know exactly what these clowns are capable of that's why they sit in camp with all their Gucci kit telling stories about how hard it is in their day job when the coffee machine piles in at work or that the air conditioning is not working,

A few ex regs at both 21 & 23 are good blokes,
The rest of them will soon be thinned out and the decent ones will go to 4 Para.

I like Bear Grylls, but take everything he does at face value - it's entertainment!
