[Closed] BB's Hope v CK v Shimano?

The time has come for a new bottom bracket. Saw the range of spangly offerings from Hope and Chris King in the shop the other day. They look superb but is it worth paying £70-£100 for a Hope / Chris King bracket or just paying £25 for a basic Shimano one and changing it yearly? What benefits do Hope / CK offer over Shimano?

Anyone got any experience with either the Hope or CK BB's?

Thanks

Have been using a Hope ceramic for 12 months now and it's fantastic you can feel the lack of friction from the first pedal stroke , have flipped the seals off one and regreased it .

Just shelled out £70 on a Hope.

I have had Shimano as annual parts previously so lets hope this one lasts

i have hope on 2 of my bikes - commuter and all mountain. only had these for 1 year. i had to replace another BB on my general hardtail and decided to go for a chris king.

in all honesty i cant tell yet what the difference between the Hope and CK is, although the CK does have a smoother action. No doubt after a couple of years the CK will be going strong when the Hope have seized.

You can service/replace the bearings in the Hope so you don't have to throw away the whole thing every time it needs replacing.

You can also do that with a Shimano (well, can't service the bearings, just have to replace the whole bearing assembly) Doesn't make a lot of sense, mind.
