As the title says ...

I'm having a frame built and want to maximise tyre clearance so that I can run a Hans Dampf.

Frame is in the jig and is being set up for a 30T Wolftooth ring on 9 speed XT triple cranks. Clearance is tight, but the idea has come up to run 2 spacers on the drive side cup (as you would for a 68mm shell). This is going to leave the non-drive side crank 2.5mm less engaged with the splines of the axle.

So, has anyone tried this without killing / maiming / injuring themselves?

Is that theory or evidence, jam bo? There does seem to be a lot of spline to my non-engineering eyes.

I did something similar a few years ago.
It was for a hack bike. Worked fine for me for over 2 years before I sold it. It was an LX crank.

Hi,

I ran 3 spacers on the driver side of my On One 456, pretty sure this was a 68MM shell, had no issues for 18 months, I did this as the granny ring tabs were catching the bolts on my chaninguide, I needed to pull the crank out slighlty, I was running a 1X9 setup.

I run a spacer on the NDS of my road crank, on my commuter (due to chainstay clearance issues) - different setup I know but same concept - the NDS arm is further out than it's designed to be. Works fine, no problems for well over a year.
