So being an idiot I have installed a shimano HT2 BB without the correct spacers. The issue is I am using a plastic PF30 adapter cup set like this http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/BBSRPFBSA/sram-pressfit-30-to-bsa-adapter-%2868-or-73mm%29.
As far as I can tell the only way to get the BB back out is drifting out the entire cup then unscrew the BB afterwards which will most probably trash the weak plastic cup. So, is it possible to run some spacers on the axel outside of the bearings rather than the normal way? - I would also need to source some suitable spacers so any ideas would be useful.. thanks!
It seems the adaptor cups have a pair of flats just for these kind issues?
First thing to do would be see if it unscrews without removing the adaptor, unlikely but might be worth it. However, the adaptor is designed to be reused, just needs to be removed properly.
Unfortunately there is no way to unscrew the BB - the cups just rotate in the frame. Guess I will need to press it out again and try not to brake it in the process! Any ideas about running spacers outside the bearings instead?
The PF30 adaptor kit should have spacers that go outside the bearing and a crush type wavy washer too. There shouldn't be spacers inside between the HT2 bb and the adaptor.
Did you install the centre tube? I am guessing not if you managed to screw the cups in too far.
Raceface might do some suitable spacers for the axle but I am amazed you can't get the BB to unscrew. If the cups are just spinning then they should just fall out, I thought being press-fit they should be a tight fit?
In case you've not seen this:
Here you go.
Various combinations of these spacers and wave washer go outside the BB depending on what crank you have. No spacers inside the BB.
edit - wrong image - but I'm sure ^ has it
