Hi ..Ive got a problem getting my cx chainset fitted , by any chance do shimano do different length plastic shells between the bearing cups ?

sounds like you might need to chase/clean the treads, as they can get very dirty, making it hard to fit a new one in.

as far as I know the plastic bit is the same length for 68/73 shells and just need to fit spacers if it a hollow tech type BB, if it's a older square/octlink type BB you need the correct BB 68mm or 73mm.

Not sure what type comes with a cx chainset, but road BBs fit without any 2.5mm spacers to a 68mm shell (and the cups are 1mm wider each side too), so the mtb type may well be too wide.
Edit, just checked techdocs and it looks like they use a road BB.

The bearing bits on Ht2 bb's vary in width between road and mtb too.
