[#6115403]

I bought a Shimano XT/SLX BB to replace an FSA BB-7000, both of which nominally fit a 24mm crank diameter. It appears that the FSA V-Drive crank will not easily slide through the Shimano bearings (just in my hand, not installed yet). Should it slide in easily, am I ok to give it a wee tap with a rubber mallet, or are they actually incompatible despite numerous sources saying they are?

No idea whether those BBs are the same size but if you're sure yeah give em a tap. I normally have to tap my shimano cranks into shimano BBs, only gentle like.

Thanks. I'll see if I can persuade it in...

IME crank fitting is all about the soft face hammer.*

(certainly on my FSA cranks w/shimano BB.)

*or a rock and an octopus, of course.

Give it a tap. If you didn't have to it would rattle in use

Not necessarily. My XT into a Chris King was tight but didn't require a tap, just careful alignment and a firm push.

I had an FSA 24mm in a Shimano BB, no bother. But I sold the FSA BB that came with the cranks to someone else with a 24mm FSA that couldn't get it into a SHimano BB. Not sure what that's all about!

my old FSA cranks wouldn't fit in an XTR BB, new deore cranks slipped straight in
I think the FSA has an ever so slightly larger diameter spindle

Much appreciated. The consensus still seems to be the rubber mallet!

Plenty of grease + rubber mallet = job done. Thanks.
