In the process of moving to a single ring set up on my PA and need a bb mounted chain guide. What's best out there for this which is also not extortionate in price!

Or is it easiest to buy one of those adapters and use with any ISCG guide?

Sure you need one? IMO a narrow/wide chainring is very effective, not foolproof but actually more effective than a chain device (*), not to mention cheaper.

(* in 3 ways. 1, less noise and rub, 2, I honestly reckon it keeps the chain on better than a top only guide and 3, if the chain does fall off, it takes 5 seconds to refit, whereas with a chain device it can be an utter bastard. Oh and also, doesn't trap mud.)

Hardtails get more shaking but then again can have less chain slack because of no chaingrowth. I rattled my Ragley down fort william dh without any bother (including the bit where I turned myself upside down at the bottom of the woods)- and tons of other stuff, rounds of the scottish enduro series and that. I did drop the chain off the big bike in the EWS, that was a right bollocks. And a few other times just in everyday riding, but never enough to annoy.

I might put a minimal one on the big bike but tbh I'm happy with the performance without. I am a slight mincer, harder riders are probably more likely to benefit.

If you have to, E13 XCX.

But I wouldn't bother, NW chainring and clutch mech works for me

I never has any issues with front mech on a double therefore a top only guide should be ok.

I ran a Bionicon C-guide, that mounts on the chainstay, on my old frame. Worked really well and never had a chain drop

designed for a double chainring with front mech.

really wouldn't work on a single chainring.

yes it will. i've got one one my current bike and had one on the previous one with a single ring up front. works perfectly. know few other riders who also use one with a single ring and none of them have any issues with them.

Superstar special worked for me. Have an E13 XCX on my current bike though.

I have dropped chains frequently with clutch and n/w so I would always run a top guide. Cause may be me being a clumsy rider/poor setup/chain alignment but I haven't dropped a chain since so that's all that matters.

Try it with just the Narrow Wide and see how it goes, then get a top guide. I prefer ISCG mounted versions personally. With the new One Up guide you don't even have to remove the cranks to fit it.
