On my Scott I have managed to bend the XT HT2 crankset in such a way that it chews through the bearings within 3 rides. This means replacing the whole lot.

Not too fussed about weight but do want reliability.

Do I go for anther set of XT cranks as the last pair were okay until the the big crash? Do I revert to a separate BB and set of cranks?

What's the current thinking and what is good out there?

XT

I know it's dull an' all, but mostly it just works, isn't madly expensive, and unless you smack it into something will last ages... 🙂

Seems to reflect my thinking. Just thought I'd see if anything had changed in the last couple of years.

slx is almost as light as xt and quite a bit cheaper though.

b-r ?

When I came round after the crash my non-drive side crank was off the bike. I put it back on with a large log. It didn't spin too well. I put a new set of external bearings in and everything was fine for the first ride. By the second ride the bearings were knackered. Looking at the axle bit there is a visible bend which is what I think is shagging the bearings.

How to I check the frame/BB alignment. I may be being think but there is no BB as such on the XT HT2s

FWIW I replaced my broken carbon Bontragers with SLX.....

Is it worth the extra £1 per gram saved for xt over slx? Clearly not imo but each to their own. 🙂

Just found some slx for £70 and XT for £113

£43 for what I think are slightly nicer looking cranks. A bit lighter too.

Anything else to recommend spending the extra £43?

£75 when you buy then as there is no free postage. Let's see when they turn up.
