[#1921923]

Got a racing bike frame and I was wondering what size bottom bracket I should put in it.
I measured it and this is the rough figures I came up with.

35x70

What chainset are you fitting? I assume the 70 measure is across the bottom bracket shell?

It's probbaly 68mm shell. The axle length depends on the chainset you're using, not the frame.

Was going to use a double ring chainset but I dont know which one.
It's for road riding.
I am open to advice from you guys.
I need something that will allow me to keep up with the other roadies in the group.

If it's road, it'll be 68mm

I'd suggest a compact double most likely - do you know what size cassette you have on the back. How fast are you - how fast are the other riders?

Don't you need to know what thread it is?

someone should know if you mention what frame it is

Unless of course it is a 70mm Italian size obviously...

I believe from chatting to lbs that it could be an Italian thread.
Also its up to me which chainset I want to use will then dictate the length of BB I will need.
And I may not be able to use a compact if I have a braze on front mech which I do.
I have a yellow alloy Fausto Coppi Gavia

It does sound like an Italian BB - further backed up by the brand.

I'd suggest something like a Tiagra compact. You may have problems with the front mech if the braze on is unusally high but it's by no means certain as most do work just fine - best thing is just to try and see really though it will need adjusting to get the best from it.
