Evening all!

After reading many single track articles I’ve decided on a trip somewhere in Europe (next year, if C19 allows) with a mate and our bikes and we’ve loosely settled on the Bavarian alps.
Which is great but I know sod all about the region really or mountain biking locations and while google can give you a lot I’m hoping that there will be some people on here that will have some suggestions and recommendations.....

Bikes are HT’s (Orange Crush) and far more capable than we are! I’m happy riding wales style (Afan) trails and enjoy a good climb. Looking for suggestions on an area to base from or trails to ride - all suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers
Si

I'd suggest south west Bavaria near Garmisch or near Zugspitze.

I've not been there for a few years but I remember it having some xc routes and lifts.

My experience of Germany has always been excellent in terms of a holiday but riding is more focused on xc style riding with most being double track. Epic views though.

Riding might have changed so I'm sure someone with better knowledge will be along soon.

Wherever you go, get along to the tourist office. They usually have a good selection of MTB route maps - probably replaced by phone apps now!

Eg https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.alpstein.alpregio.Garmisch_Patenkirchen

Worth looking on Trailforks too.

One thing I’d point out is that because of the 2m rule, riding can be limited outside of bike parks.

Yes, a good point re the 2m rule. Hopefully things may be slightly different April onwards next year but we’ll see

@simonsl8er No worries.

FYI the 2m rule isn't covid related - in Germany, I think the rule is that bikes aren't allowed on paths narrower than 2m outside of bike parks, hence my double track comment.

Outside of bike parks, you're most likely to find yourself on gravel, double track paths. Still pretty but probably not what you want.

Unless you have a specific reason for Germany, you might be better off looking elsewhere in the Alps.
