Having bought my missus a cheap but respectable little Carrera about 18 months ago and promptly getting her up the duff soon after, she’s only just gotten back into riding it, she’s not exactly tearing up the trails yet, but likes the odd jaunt, I noticed yesterday that despite having at most done 400 miles and being a pretty gentle rider the centre lugs on the rear tyre that came on the bike are showing a surprising amount of wear, they are also 2.35” which seems a bit wide and draggy for the type of riding she’s doing…

Any recommendations for a cheapish, 2.0” - 2.1”, all year round (for a fair weather rider) slightly harder wearing trail tyre?

I was considering Bonty Connection’s, everyone seems to like their Mud-X jobbies, but how are there most basic, cheap tyres for gentler trail pootling?

Heavy, but perfectly good.

Do you not have some tyres kicking about that you didn't like, but she'll be fine with? That's what I tend to use, she gets a decent quality tyre, and she's unlikely to have the same issues with them that you had.

Nevegal or Highroller 2.1s? Not exactly winter tyres but they deal with winter much better than most, they wear reasonably well and they're not too expensive. Bit slow maybe but it's a good tradeoff I reckon...

@njee20 – Sadly no I had a “purge” of spares before we moved 4 months ago and as a Result have no spare tyres.

@ Northwind – Highrollers are probably more than I’d like to spend, I was thinking £25 absolute tops for the pair, Can you get High rollers for £12?

@ Olly – again probably over budget, and probably way over spec’, I doubt she’d ever need “Rock Velcro” and I think she’s allergic to mud…

Cheers for the suggestions…

CRC do some pretty cheap wire bead tyres - can't remember specifics but seem to remember there was quite a lot of cheap choice with Continental.

Hmmm. Those Ignitors look like a good deal

CRC do some silly cheap Michelins but I have bad memories of old wildgrippers, some of them look a bit similar… maybe worth a punt though on the “Country Mud” £8 with a free tube seems too good to not try…

But then the Bonty’s I mentioned earlier can be purchased for reasonably low prices also….

Decisions, decisions….

Those £13 ignitors have £4 P&P on top. 2.1" Ignitors come up really quite small to0

CRC have conti race king 2.0/2.2" for £14 ea. posted, speed king 2.1"(again quite small)/2.3" Speed Kings for £13 ea. posted?

The bog standard Maxxis Advantage 2.1 are pretty good. My missus also likes the Conti Speed kings, she weighs nothing though, so can get away with them.
