Prior to top coat going on some sort of heavy undercoat. Easy to rattle can spray, then wet and dry it smooth before final top coat/s
Can anyone recommend something. I suppose it doesnt need to be spray, just something i can rub down and remove blemishes in the metal that might show through, filler and the like.

Spray Bike do a couple of primers/fillers for exactly this. (I’ve got one of them but haven’t used it yet.)
without access to the fancy dan stuff to be sprayed through an hvlp gun then go for spray.bike
Red oxide primer for a steel frame. Done it loads of times with BMX's.
Just finished spraying an old frame with spray bike paint...very impressed with how easy it went on and the finish. I was recommended to use the primer with Zinc as i was spraying a raw frame. Highly recommended.
