Hi
The barrel adjusters on my bike were old, rusty and generally clagged up so I replaced them with....
They are new and shiny but utterly useless
When under tension they just slip back leaving me with floppy cables - not good
There is a small metal clippy thing you can see in the pic but it doesn't obviously do anything to help keep tension
What am I doing wrong please?
Cheers
Well you're useless at posting links, for one ๐

Don't have any useful suggestions though, any time I#'ve needed a new one I've scavenged it out of an old shifter
Thanks, going through phone hell with the link ๐
I'd hazard a guess that the clips are just to keep the plastic collar in place until they're fitted. There's probably a little coil spring inside.
When you say they're slipping, do you mean the thread is stripped ?
I assume the thread has gone as they were made of cheese
No, not stripped at all
The problem is when I screw them out to fine tune my indexing and take up the slack after fitting new cables and outers they don't hold their position and slip back half a turn trashing my indexing
Ah, in that case removing those clips should sort you out. That will let the plastic collar push against the mech / boss and that will stop them turning. Hopefully.
Can also be wind-up in the cable outer- hold the outer tightly near the barrel when you turn it so it doesn't get twisted as you adjust.
