Should be simple, but......

I have a Trek Fuel Ex 8 and the Bontrager bars are not the comfiest and a tad on the narrow side. I have decided on a set of Easton EA70 monkeybars but what rise? The current bars are 40mm rise but that does feel a little on the high side and gives very light steering on the really steep uphill stuff but they are a completely different shape to monkeybars.

Any advice?

If you think your current bars are too tall, try some shallower rise ones! Simple really...

Or even better... Move a couple of headset spacers above the stem from below it, this will lower your bars too, but it's FREE! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good point ๐Ÿ™‚ I am already set on changing the bars as they are just not comfy and a tad narrow. What I was trying to ascertain was, what is the most versatile rise? What do most guys find they default to? I suppose it's too much of a personal choice though really.

Flip a coin it is then! ๐Ÿ™‚

Heads - Lo Rise
Tails - Med Rise

Got to be the 1" rise, I ran those for a couple of years. decided to go up on the width and now running a pair of Sunline V3, 20mm rise and 710mm wide. Think it'll probably be Easton Havocs next time, just like that classic easton profile.
