I put 780mm bars on my Hemlock. Now the 720s on my Ragley feel ridiculous. But they were great 2 weeks ago! If I could turn back ti-eyme

ha ha ha! It happens, just for some reason the road bike feels fine. The missus had some 670's on one of her bikes for a while and every time I took it out for a spin/test ride it felt ridiculous and I was convinced my hands were crossed.

She just had a go on my 780's and thought they were fine for going downhill on, we will see how that goes.

I already had to put 720s on my hybrid. I'm really not putting 780mm bars on that. Am I? Do I have a choice?

DAMN YOU BARS!

I suggest you seek further help with a different kind of bar

Having similar with frames. 160 frame is a longer reach than the bike it replaced, feels great. Problem is my other bikes feel short in comparison, and because I ride the 160 most often, I'm crashing on the others because I'm positioned wrongly on them.

I still have my cut down 52 cm Answer Hyperlites (blue anodised) that I used to run back in 1994 along with my Answer bar ends....and a purple 150mm ringle stem. Might fit them to my Cove Hummer and go shred the gnar at kirroughtree whilst wearing my old Rox t-shirt and Axo padded shorts, think I've got my original Oakley pink blades in the attic somewhere as well.

Retro is cool ain't it?, or am I just deluding myself?

It's just about possible that I've got the bars off my first proper mtb in the garage, I reckon they'd be pretty much half as wide as these new ones. But heavier obviously. I don't even really understand how all the controls fitted.

I've no Scooby what size bars I have. What's the average standard out of curiosity?

There isn't one, old stuff used to max out at about 685. Now there are no rules and people have what they like, it's great.

I have several retrobikes (1985-1995) and the bars are all narrow, 22.5", 2@23.5", and 24" wide. The narrowest (22.5" = 570 mm) has bar ends as well! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Both modern bikes are at 760 mm or 30" now.

My most ridden bike is my commuter with 695 easton carbon bars they feel tiny on a Monday after a weekend on my 780s

Trouble is 780 is impractical for london and more importantly they match the seatpost

My son, who has 600s on his Rockhopper, is now asking for wider bars. He is 12.

The wooded singletrack round here bears the scars of the wide bar trend.

It's pretty tight and I think they ought to introduce a 'Stanmer Max' bar width restriction to protect the fauna.

Flora, unless wide bars are killing baby robins.

What's the widest production bar, by the way? Is it still the Yardstick?

Was out for a walk the other day when a couple of bikers rode past, their bars just looked ridiculously wide, could've been a metre at least!

Gone from 640mm (with bar ends) to 700mm (with bar ends) recently. The move to 700 felt good. I took off the bar ends and they feel a bit too wide now. 685 sounds reasonable. 780 sounds way too wide for XC mincing ๐Ÿ™‚

Ian the Spaniard has 800mm bars, I feel like my chin is on the stem when I try them, 740mm FTW
