[#10127219]

My current one has given up the ghost. I never really liked it but being a tightwad I persevered with it for 10 years.

I'd like a new one and I:

Would consider a bikepacking style one but it needs to work with cantilever brakes and I believe many don't because of the head tube strap.

Would also consider a more traditional one but it would need to be relatively large and robust. I think the last one was 7L or more.

Ideas? Cheers.

Picked up one of these. cheap in the last PX sale:

https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CCPODHBB/podsacs-waterproof-handlebar-barrel-bag

Seems extremely well made for the money, very cheap and fits pretty securely. Can't comment on compatibility with cantis though.

I've recently purchased one of these:

https://www.ortlieb.com/en/Ultimate6%20S%20Plus/

For long road rides. USP for me was a see through panel on top I can add a route profile / points of interest piece of paper to. 5ltr, it's a box so needs careful packing to try and stop rattling (I added bubble wrap below & used spare clothing).

And at 18l it could replace my bar bag and lowriders for road touring.

Hmm. Tempted...

They certainly look good but still spendy.

Right, just ordered a salsa anything full rig from Bike24. It's my birthday tomorrow and any cash I get can go to that.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Happy birthday for tomorrow. I won't add any more suggestions as you're sorted now!

Wilcat harness with Alpkit dry bag - the double ended one either 13l or 20l.

Apidura are also popular and I think AK do a complete set up.

Be aware of the two main styles which are fixed harness and removable dry bag or drybag attached to bike. I much prefer the removable dry bag type as I find it more user friendly.

My Anything Cage and accoutrements was delivered today.

Of course being the Muppet I am it turns out my bars are 25.4 not 31.8. Fortunately I had a spare set of oversized compact drops and stem!

First impressions are that it's a bit fiddly but I'll get used to that. Otherwise it's a very well designed bit of kit. Thanks for the recommendation.
