After a tapered headset and usually go with hope, but they only do this in black which is a shame 😕

Any other bang for buck quality recommendations?

I'll get flamed for this and asked why I've not died a horrible death from using it but when I built my Five last November I fitted a Superstar one (~£40 I think). Its been absolutely faultless so far which is a lot better than a Hope headset I used in the dim and distant past...

Yep I got flamed too for saying in my experience FSA and Cane Creek headsets costing a RRP of ~£40 but had for much cheaper in sales and ebay have served me well in the past.

I've had a few FSA Orbit series headsets. I 'think' they are built from the same design just different sized cups etc. You can usually find these on ebay or in sales for around £25.

Currently using a Cane Creek 40 series but only had it a few months so can;t really comment on durability but seems well made and performing great so far.

I agree, although I may get flamed for suggesting that the way they are fitted and looked after makes more of a difference to how long they last.

I've got two of the superstar headsets on two bikes, the first one I fitted as it came and the bearings got grumbly after about six months, on the second I popped the seals off the bearings with a Stanley knife and filled em with grease and they've been perfect for over twelve months..
Both fitted with a proper headset press,

Thanks for suggestions guys, will check the other options out, seems theres not much choice in anodized colours for tapered around. I've found the hopes all in for £62 now which doesnt seem so bad.
