Hey guys and gals, we are off up to Ballater first thing in the morning for 4 days Unfortunately we are 1 wk late for the Indian summer.

Anyone got ideas for rides. We usually go munroing and like hard trails but we may need a couple of lower trails if weather really is bad.

There's a few obvious ones but anyone know off something a bit different or had a good ride pls let us know.

Would be appreciated.

I only know the obvious ones, which you've probably done

or had a good ride pls let us know.

Oh, all right, just in case...
Beinn a bhuird from the Quioch. I'd probably try that unless the wind is heinous.

Morrone just south of Braemar is a short day, fire road up won't be affected by rain. The descent to Brarmar has shit loads of sharp rocks, but probably a fair bit of peaty squelch too.

I'd avoid the Linn Of Dee loop like the plague if it's been wet. Or at least avoid the Ghru bit. Perhaps a there and back on the Eastern part of the loop.

Heartbreak should be mainly rock, so might be OK.

We did Mastermind in the pissing rain. Not great, quite squelchy.

ET and the stuff on the hillock to the east was lovely, but not so sure if it's raining.

That's it really. I'm sure I've added nothing to your store of info, but hope you have a great time...

Oh yes, also did a pile of Munros east of Sheeski through to lochcallater descent. Surprisingly rideable IMHO, but then it had been fairly dry. Has the advantage that if the weather is hellish then you might he able to persuade someone to shuttle you up to the ski centre. I did 5 Munros that evening ( after I'd done Morrone with the kids) but if it's shitty weather then you could skip most of them and head straight for the mega descent.

Green mile is usually a good shout but can be wet in places at best of times not sure I’d recommend.

Is short so hour and a half then escape for a dry out somewhere!

The forecast doesn't look too bad, but probably not ideal for heading out onto Mount Keen or Lochnagar type stuff.

Sticking in the trees around Ballater would point you to Mastermind/Old School and/or Green Mile, but Green Mile isn't all that amazing IMO. I'd probably head a few miles downriver to Aboyne and ride Masterblaster, Fungle singletrack, Panic Button, Emasculation, Chutney etc around there (check Trailforks obviously)

All of the above are almost 100% in the trees, so should keep you pretty sheltered from the worst of the wind and rain.

The trails around Cambus O’May are probably a good option - gentle spin out along the old railway trail then a nice low level network of trails in the trees 👍

Hey guys thanks for the replys

We hit Ben lawers/ghlas on the way up Friday. It rode ever well considering the wind was ridiculous.

Forecast wasn't all that bad today so we did Ben mac via the carn a mhaim ridge. Was ok weather wise until the boulder field up macdui. The weather turned pretty bad and was a difficult decent due to cold.
Lochnagar maybe tomorrow if its looking OK. But that's dependent how we feel in the morning other wise it could be some of you woodland suggestions.
It was probably the last day of the your to ride macdui I'd imagine as the scenes on top were impressively fast snow build up.

Cheers again
