After some advice on here I got my little girl a balance bike for her second birthday. It took a while for her to take to it but she was soon gliding through our housing estate with a big grin. A few of my friends have since bought balance bikes on the strength of her glowing recommendation of them. We are off to Centre Parcs soon so I thought I'd borrow an old girls bike ("with peddles like Charlie and Lola") that has been languishing in my folks garage. Got it Sunday night and fixed it up on Monday evening (taking off the stabilisers) after work. My three year old demanded to go on it and promptly took off down the middle of our road. Fantastic thing to see. She is even weaving around the local footpaths.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'd recommend these peddleless wonders to anyone: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/run-ride-new-kids-balance-bike-red-white-id_8237693.html

It's great when they 'get' something like that isn't it?

She certainly has a habit of looking anywhere but where she is going so I can imagine her encountering a some abuse very soon!

Great invention. She'll be straight onto a pedal bike with already great balance.

Wish I had one as a kid instead of stupid stabilisers that teach nothing.

"housing estate"

"Centre Parcs"

What are these things of which you speak!? This is STW, doncherknow... ๐Ÿ˜‰

In all seriousness, balance bikes are awesome - bought my nephew the Decathlon one and he loves it.

Yup balance bikes are awesome. First two kids didn't have balance bikes, but had pedal bikes with stabilisers. They were riding pedal bikes at 4 and 6.

Second two had balance bikes:
-balance bike at 2.5 then pedal bike at 2 years 11 months
-youngest had balance bike at 19 months then pedal bike at 22 months

My youngest started pedaling last week at 3.5 after a year on a balance bike. Eldest was the same. Brilliant things.

Brilliant things aren't they.

My daughter (nearly six) still uses hers for messing about doing tight turns on a bit of our lawn that has a steepish slope - you can hear the tyres breaking loose on the grass and she giggles when she skids the back wheel out doing it.

My son loves his - goes everywhere he can on it. Been over the handlebars a couple of times and mowed down our rotary washing line (snapped it off just above the ground and ended up pissing himself laughing on his side under a couple of sheets).

Cracking outdoor fun - you know the type of things kids did before games consoles and ipads.

Brilliant things, both my daughter and son had one and both now ride pedal bikes (Islabikes CNOC 14 and Beinn 20). My daughter is five, my son three, no requirement for stabilisers here!

My daughter loved her balance bike - she's now nearly 4 and has ridden the 1 mile to nursery almost every day (one day i took her in the car, the shame I felt wasn't worth it)

She rides to school a hell of a lot faster with pedals though ๐Ÿ˜‰

We have a strider for our son. He waddled about on it at first but watched his little friend do it properly and picked it up in no time. One week later he was doing the pump track at Castlewellan on his own ๐Ÿ™‚

My 4 year old son only had a balance bike (Scoot) so we brought him an Islabike with no stabilisers the other week for his birthday.

Put him straight on it and he rode off with no problems! I was amazed and very proud of course ๐Ÿ˜€

I think a combination of a balance bike and a tag a long bike which i brought second hand really helped develop his sense of balance.

those b-twin balance bikes look brilliant - my wee man is 8 months old... can't wait for him to get on one!

I was just looking at the OP's link and spotted this: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/12-woony-500-bike-id_8242425.html
