I've never travelled with a bike before but will be this Summer.
My bike's an alu Zesty with Revs, dropper, strong not light wheels and probably SuperGravitys for that week. It was never built to be light per se, but it's generally full of decent bits for a general Trail bike.
With it in something like an onone bag, am I going to be pushing it for a 23kg baggage allowance? I have a feeling I may be. Nothing handy to weigh it on...
i'd guess your bike weighs 14kg.
what's a padded+wheeled bike bag? 7kg?
add some extra padding: 1Kg
22kg.
but i'd also be surprised if you can still get a bike on an aircraft without either:
A) pre-booking it for a small fee
or
B) paying on the day with a massive fee
and getting it checked in through the large-items desk.
Probably. Who you flying with? Easy jet has a 32kg allowance.
BA has been the airline of choice on 'allin' price - apparently by the time the extras are racked up on the cheaper options BA's initially higher price seems like a good deal...
They're fine with a bike bag as hold luggage so long as youtell them it's coming. No fee.
Ba also have a huge carry on weight limit.
Aeroflot have fantastic extra bagage prices
Easy jet has a 32kg allowance.
32kg for the bike plus 23kg normal baggage = 53kgs - should be enuff
yep, just exploring carry on. Looks like something not exceeding 23kg but 22"x18"x10" - which sounds about like a 35l rucksack is ok as handbaggage....
Think that's probably me sorted.
Ta! ๐
Carry on with a bike.?
The new Brompton "Alpine" ?
