Can't seem to get the air out of my ]old style ] SLX rear brake bleeding it the normal way so was thinking of trying to bleed it from the caliper end. How much fluid in the lines? Do people use a syringe to blast fluid through? Any other hot tips? Does it work??11??

That's the way I do my (older) Shimanos and the way the official Shimano kit works.

Its the best and easiest way to bleed most brakes, even Hope! Much more effective than the faff of open bleed nipple, squeeze lever, close nipple, etc, etc...
Its good to have some sort of container on the floor under the lever to catch the overspill as you purge the system.

Easy tiger! You don't BLAST it, you just push it through steadily 🙂

Don't think there's any real top-tips mate, but yeah syringe with a bit of 5/6 or 7mm pipe (luck of the draw if you have the right one), unlock the bleed valve, push through and hopefully watch the air come out the top while you're using another syringe to remove excess fluid from the reservoir. As you're doing it tap around the calliper with a screwdriver handle or similar, also tapping the hose all the way up (works for me). When you're happy there's (all being well) no more air, lock it off down at the calliper, fill the reservoir, roll the diaphragm and refit the top bit. Just make sure you've pushed the pistons back and fitted the yellow bleed spacer if you have one.

Not sure how much oil they hold, but not that much...prob about 30-40ml in all, but I'd always have about 50ml in the syringe and just replace the unused in the bottle. But pushing the pistons back and using the bleed spacer will make sure you get the correct amount of oil in there.

Hope it helps and soz if I've gone off on one with useless rubbish! 😀

Epicbleedsolutions website will get you everything you need.

If you are after a bit of plastic tubing, I got some from a pet store, sold for fish tanks. If anybody needs a bit, I can send a few inches out.

Back bleeding is the correct way to bleed almost any hydraulic brakes, and is recommended by Shimano.
