Been riding here since 2013, a stunning part of the country on beautiful roads with no traffic, what's not to like eh!
Anyway, nice to see the area get picked up in the Guardian:

If you're ever in the area I would recommend taking your road bike. Enjoy.
I agree, it's nice. Sod the road bike though, there's loads of good mtb'ing too.
Just watch out for the locals
Yeh it's a lovely part of the world, done some great rides on the roads round Straiton.
there's loads of good mtb'ing too.
Ridden a good loop from Stinchar Bridge, down to Loch Bradan, round the side then over to Loch Doon and back to the start.
Any other recommendations?
I think that's about it down there Bob, unless you like riding endless fire roads.....
When ye coming to ride down Fairlie way Bob?.
there's loads of good mtb'ing too
I'd be interested to know where the good mtbing is too that isn't fire road stuff.
By the locals do you mean patna/dalmellington?
For such a vast upland area, there is actually a disappointing dearth of trails, mainly because there isn't any bedrock at surface level, and the fact you can walk where you want, and there's no great amount of people eroding in trails as such.
I've tried anywhere that may offer potential, corserine ridge was decent up on the ridge, but a march of doom to get up there, and more disappointingly the same to get down. The Merrick is acceptable for a wee evenings hike a bike, but only if your in the area really.
I ride down Doon/Bradan way in the spring, but it's really just to get miles in.
