I was about to realign my Elixir brakes today when I noticed that the spacers that help with the alignment are crumbling. I rubbed it with my finger and a bit broke off.
I've heard of bike parts being made out of cheese but these would appear to be made of biscuit!
Anyone had the same problem?
Cheers
Matt
Yup, exactly as you describe, the spacers seem like they have corroded or become very brittle and crumble.
The silver concave spacer? Yep, discovered one of mine was cracked although this was on a well used set of Juicy brakes.
Do you know where I can get replacements. Are they generic or specific to Avid?
Cheers
Matt
Not separately although CRC has theses...

They are very vulnerable to that. Mine went half way round a trail and thankfully the little screw on ring you fing on inntertubes did the trick.
Got replacements from LBS and keep a spare set in my bag now.
they are the same as on vbrake pads - buy some cheap ones and get teh spacers free
mine also broke on front and rear. Tightened them up without them on and they work fine. Plus..saved a good 2 grams ๐
Parts bin at LBS is a good place to start, we usually keep a few that have been salvaged from worn out V-brakes.
