My levers are feeling a bit spongy. I haven't got a bleed kit but was hoping I could just top up the reservoir. Is this possible and will it help?

I've checked the pads and they are fine.

It probably won't work. You can try and encourage a few more air bubbles to come into the reservoir before topping it up, but the real fix is a bleed. I guess it's worth a try, so zip-tie the lever close to the bar (brake locked on) overnight, then release it in the morning and top up the reservoir.

What model are they? I don't think you can easily get into the reservoirs on some avids.

Elixir CR. From what you're saying, I think I'm better off getting a bleed kit.

Bite the bullet and do a bleed, I'd been putting off for a while then bought one of the cheap bleed kits knocking about on the net and wondered why i'd not taking the plunge earlier.

It really is a ten minute job and I found it really satisfying knowing i'd done it myself!

Brakes shouldn't need "topping up". If they do, It's a symptom of something more significant. Do a full bleed.
