[Closed] Avid brake bleed - does this sound right ?

[#2190471]

I have a set of Avid Elixir CR brakes, after a couple of months of use the lever pulled back to bars so the LBS bled them.
All was well for about 6-8 rides but once again levers pulled back to bars. So it appears air is getting into the system somewhere.

I carried out another bleed last night and wondered if anyone else who has bled them can tell me if the points found below sound right, I don't think it does, and it could be the source of air influx.

When bleeding the lever, when pulling on the syringe you see bubbles appear in the syringe, But, there is also a sucking noise from around the reach adjuster. If you put pressure on the syringe, then a drop of oil appeared around the reach adjuster.
Does that sound like a seal or something has gone in that area or is there some sort of breather (is that daft) in the system ?

Another issue I noticed, compared to rear that works fine, Is that the silver barrel that connects to the hose will actually push into out of the Red pad contact adjuster by about 1-2mm. On the working lever, it doesn’t move at all.

Any insights into finding the air leak gladly welcome 😉

Scored master cylinder bore? I've sent a couple of sets back under warranty for the same thing, and they replaced the lever body.

I've got exactly the same problem. Can't tell if I'm doing something wrong in the bleed, or if there is really a leak.

There will be a breather to allow the diaphragm (basically a rubber bag around the master cylinder) to expand and contract. It's also possible that the diaphragm has a hole in it, or that it's no longer sealing where the master cylinder goes in at the lever end.

Cheers, that sounds like a possibility.

DL'd the lever service instructions... Gulp...
