I am the sort of [s]eejit[/s] person who would seriously consider buying a Donhou DSS2

However, for various reasons, I am not immediately smitten with it.

What else should I be thinking about?

I've looked at the Niner RLT-steel

Salsa Vaya Ti

and I'm aware of Kinesis Tripster ATR

What else should I be rubbing myself against? Thoughts appreciated...

Cheers all 🙂

Any decent rigid 29er and build it up as a road bike. Then you can fit tyres as wide as the schwalbe Big Apples 2.35" or the Thunder Burts.

You won't want to go back from that once you've tried it.

The problem being that most of the newer ones have slack head angles so they can take suspension forks, but if you're getting something built, you can specify what you want.

Slightly OT, the Woundup forks on the Donhou have always interested me. Anyone ridden them? They look a lot tidier than mtb forks.

The Shand is doing it for me. The salsa is gopping. Something just not right.

Any decent rigid 29er and build it up as a road bike.

I dont get how you can do that without doing daft things with stems or a custom fork and hoiking the front end up off the ground. I still want a monstercross with 650b+ clearances, but I'm going to have to get custom I think.

Last time I tried something similar, the gods wept, the birds fell silent, and pandora crossed her legs:

(It was surprisingly good fun to ride though)

Something about showing a photo of a bike that price with a bent seatpost, upturned saddle, massive spacer stack and hoods pointing toward the heavens?

Escapade is a possible. I'm being a tart about the colours though 😉

Got Woundup forks on my seven axiom (road bike) really like them. Nicer ride than comparable carbon forks at the time but seven don't spec them any more.

Alloy Salsa Warbird in teal:

Mate of mine has got one and it's a lovely bike (no mud guard mounts though I don't think, which if I'm honest would put me off).

That Niner, simply because it's a Niner.

That Shand also, simply because it's a Shand.

HTH's 😆

Someone does a gizmo now to allow you to use a shimano trigger shifter now so I suppose it could be somewhere in the pipeline.

I use a Co.motion shifter and it's lovely much smoother and lighter to use than standard shifter. And fits drop bars of course 🙂

Some lovey bikes up there, esp. Shand.

Throwing in:
Open U.P.
Santa Cruz Stigmata

For added orange-iness

We can do that now using a SRAM brifter if you want.

Open Cycle GravelPlus?

Bruce Gordon? Hand-built by the man with the most lugubrious face in cycling.

Whatever you get, don't compete against me in a cross race on it.

I love my Bowman Palace so much I'd suggest a Bowman Pilgrims... in fact I'm thinking I might like one as a winter bike...

I had that with trying to turn a Singular Swift into one. Almost worked but not quite. Then I remembered the Gryphon. It worked.

Since you're practically next door, BD, a China direct frame - Shenzhen can't be far 😉

Dunno - it's not mine! I'm pretty sure it's Sam's, you could ask him?

Edit:

I was going to say Yes you should! I don't think he's got any immediate plans to make any more.

Then I thought - "I might have a look myself..." But I couldn't find it! 🙂 crack on!

I don't need another bike.

Ned. You arse.

Ive just bought it now 😳

I was ogling it, then flicked to my paypal account where I had a bit of cash (about £250) from selling my old computer parts. The missus walked by my desk and caught me.

I sold her a sob story, and she said "well, why dont you buy it for yourself for your 40th Birthday?"

I love my wife.

She's not wrong. £350 for a F&F I've always wanted RRP £500.
I did the right thing. Didnt I? 😉

It's the forks that look ugly on a lot of these bikes, imo.
