I want to do some XC training laps. Aston is the same distance as Swinley. I could do with somewhere less crowded and more XC race like (less groomed and smooth)that I can put a set of bottles without fear of them being stolen and also slightly less concrete like.
Does Aston fit this bill?
Have you tried looking for gpx logs of Gorrick races round porridgepot, tunnel hill, minley etc? Plenty of non hardpack, non groomed, non motorway riding in the area.
I did the Aston XC recently and it should suit your needs, plenty of tricky technical bits, plenty of roots and likely to be pretty much empty.
There are lots of roots on the XC loop. Lots and lots and lots.
I got somewhat frustrated with them, mind you it was wet. Don't go to Aston in the wet, the roots are wet and slippy and the rest of it is chalk, which is soooo slippery it makes the roots feel like very sticky, sticky stuff
