Made my first trip to Aston Hill this week thinking it'll be easy on my 150mm travel HT. Having ridden some steep stuff (like mini alps in swinley) at a half decent speed I thought I was gonna rocket down the black run without issue.

I have never been so wrong! It's bloody steep, and on a Hardtail it makes the black run a double diamond run. After a few runs I got the hang of the rooty drops straight into corners and I eventually progressed to overtaking someone slow on a full sus.

This is the most fun I have ever had with my clothes on, but god damn it it steep and bumpy. Surprisingly my arms and legs are fine, doesn't feel like I've just ridden the equivalent of 10 miles of cobbles on a road bike. Which is probably due to running my fork a bit soft.

So, anyone that is thinking about going there for the first time make sure you have knee pads (As I did take a few spills and sliced my knee up) and a full face helmet, other then that, Go hardcore and do it on a hardtail! it's very very fun!

Just wanted to share!

Oh, and Surface to Air, is big for a AM HT that is ๐Ÿ˜›

Did it on a BFe ( @ 160 ) about 6 months back and am not returning until i have a squishy,,

Surface to Air was a lot of fun..

Everything else was a rooty experience in a non fun way. I like to hit the trails fast but hiyying those roots fast didnt do it for me.
