Sorry if I'm wide of the mark but I'm looking for some new trails in herts and came across the Aston Hill centre website - has anyone ridden there? Is it more shore/downhill? Any decent singletrack that won't be a complete mudfest Absolute clag round here now the snows gone ;-(

Any other suggestions welcome

thanks

Aston hill has a XC course (about 3 and bit miles of it, if memory serves) It suffers from the same things that all the rest of the Chilterns do at this time of year. It's quite good fun for a morning's interval work, but i wouldn't want to spend all day there. There is, however, the worlds supply of decent trails all around that area, go and have a look. It's pretty sloppy at the minute, but that's never been a reason not to go cycling IMO.

Aston hill is very chalky and takes an age to dry out. Take care on the downhill sections as they can be very slippery. Even mud tyres don't clear that well.

There are some fun bits but the chalky, slippery nature of the trails mean I'm intending to spend more time at Swinley for a while yet

Yeah, realise that mud is kind of unavoidable but round here it seems to be the really sticky stuff that adds about 40lb to the bike and eventually the wheels stop turning....

Welcome wetness, filth and general muck just want and an end to carrying rather than cycling because of clag
that was a bit of a rant, sorry

Yeah, it has all got that "Drying out, now turned to heavy mud" stage. before you know it there'll be a dry line... ๐Ÿ˜‰
