Heading down south in a few weeks and tempted to go to Aston Hill on the Sunday. Worth a visit? What is it like?

A downhill track no uplift. The downhill is good very quick and steep in places . The xc route is a waste of time though very dull imo.

Its OK, chalky and rooty, so dont bother if its raining*.

*Unless you like riding DH with no control

Also the surrounding area is good for XC riding in the Chilterns. I often combine the two.

I ride back up on my 1x10 Covert, takes 10 mins and is easy.

You will be pushing if your on a DH bike.

Or I ride the XC course back up, which is hard work.

Trimix - you ride back up? You freak... it's all about pushing up at Aston Hill... you'll learn.

You'll be riding up on your own then! It's a footpath at the top as well... oh... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Is it enough for a days riding?

It's enough for a day of DH push-up riding.

If the roots don't get you, the chalk will...in the wet!

Ride it till your bored / knackered, then do some XC in the rest of the Chilterns. Loads of great trails to ride - just get an OS map and start riding. They are all good fun. There is also a FC cafe nearby for grub.

I don't know, my brother who used to place at least in the Top 10 in his NPS category (so I imagine he's a fair bit better than you) really hated riding Aston Hill in the wet. You can't always predict the level of grip you have on the front even with wetscreams on that chalk - and if you do **** up you stand a good chance of face planting a tree at high speed.

It's ok Bwaarp. My brother used to be god so I'm sort of blessed when it comes to riding bikes. I once rode to France across the channel.

I'm biased cause I am a committee member at Aston.

Riding it in the wet isn't easy but then DH isn't supposed to be easy. It requires finesse and skill to master the DH runs in the wet.

Practice there enough and you'll learn how to find and use the grip.
