[#2142657]

need a new pair of lightweight discs and am drawn to these for some reason..

Anyone got some? any good, do they warp at the slightest temp change or are they reliable?

Pattern is fairly agressive too, I'm guessing this'll promote a better pad/disc surface and increase braking effiency. I know there'll be a pad wear trade off but am fine with that..

Views, good bad or indifferent. Or suggest an alternative. XC race use.

Cheers

Mine are about 6months old and still true. Lighter than claimed also. Highly recommended

I replaced my standard issue Formula rotors for some Ashima Air rotors.
Both the Formula and Ashima's weighed 85 grams (160mm -6 bolt) on my digital scales and the Ashima's pulsed horribly.
I won't be buying them again.
XT discs for me.

I've been running a pair of 180mm airotors with some magura Louise's for the last 4 months and can't tell the difference between these and the original magura rotors; either in weight or performance. There was a similar thread not to long ago, and most seemed pretty happy.

I have them on both bikes, both over a year or so no problems and half the weight of hope bog standard ones

Think I heard they pulse with certain brakes, Formula for example (something to do with a certain pad dimension/position) but I have used mine with Hayes 9 and Avid Elixirs for 6 months: so far no reason to notice them (a good thing). I haven't dragged them down any mountains, but they have dealt with Afan no problem. 180 front, 160 rear. I've only used sintered pads anyway, but I think that's one restriction Ashima make.

FYI, Ashima used to recommend fitting them the opposite way around to most rotors, but have since changed their recommendation to as per normal. I think there is info on their website that explains the story behind this (if you're interested/bored)

I used some for a while with my SLX brakes and found they lacked power compared to my SLX/XT rotors. Gone back to standard rotors now, and its much better. It was especially noticeable with sintered pads.

They felt horrible with my saint/xt/lx old style shimano brakes. Very noticeable "pulsing" effect, though to me it felt more like a clunking effect. Much prefer my aztecs in every way, especially stopping power.

I've used mine very happily with Shimano XT and with Tektro Auriga, which are basically old Shimano. But they didn't work so well with my Oros, which I think is just down to the pad shape, there was a bit of noticable pulsing though nothing that actually mattered, they just felt odd. But brakes are about confidence as much as anything else so I took them off and put them back on the bike with the Tektros where they don't bother me at all. Certainly no loss of power (braking force is complicated, if you decrease the surface area you increase the pressure on the remaining surface area)

The only thing I always doubted was their ability to survive knocks, it was never an issue but then I never knocked them ๐Ÿ˜‰ I don't think you can expect as much durability from them as you would a rotor with more metal in them, that just seems like logic.

they didn't work so well with my Oros,

me too. ABS kind of effect. But fine with Juicys & SLX. Bigger pads me thinks.

Have worked great for me with last years LX, hope minis, hope x2s and magura louises.

160 ashima is about the same weight (give or take a gram) as 160 hope floating rotor. 180 ashima was quite a bit lighter than 183 floating rotor it replaced.
