The venue for the 3rd Brass Monkeys is at Ash. I've not ridden it before, what's it like? Much climbing? All open? Smooth enough for an aged old crock to use a HT or rooty enough to save my back with the FS, etc etc Oh and muddy or sandy?

Much like Ceasars camp and the rest of the riding around there, Tunnel Hill etc.
I have ridden a 140mm FS around there and it was overkill, I was able to sit down the whole time... I now ride my hardtail over there and it's much more fun, not too rooty so your back will be fine.

It's nowhere near as hilly as Caesars, but the ground/soil is the same. It's fairly open in parts.

It was bloody wet and gritty this morning! But if we get decent weather between now and then (ie, average winter stuff, rather than more monsoon) it drains pretty well.

I find ash quite hard, the hills just seem a bit steeper than tunnel hill, but there isn't quite as much elevation as caesers, so there aren't as many long climbs. Of course, depends entirely where Sgt pants and co decide to send you......
