As the title.
I am!

I was chatting a while ago with a riding pal and we concoted a plan to buy some Fat bikes and rent them out for the weekend to those people who wanted a go, but did not want to buy one to find out if they really liked them.

How many of you would be Fat curious?

No, I've had one for over 3 years now, and love it.

I was.

Bought a second hand pugsley. It couldn't really do anything more than any of my other bikes could, so sold it for the same money.

Give it a bash, it might work for you.

I've got mine. Haven't ridden it for a couple of months, but definitely rate it as a great way to see boggy trails.

Other places hire them already - there's one in East Lothian with a fleet of Pugsleys I believe

I was, then I met Jo, a bong eyed, ginger hippy, of a sizable, girth. She was a one nighter, but left a lasting memory of scabies, so I itched for a few months, until I worked out what it was.

Put me off fatties for life.

I was. They have some hire fatties at Grizedale; I was curious. Gave it a go.

I am satisfied I don't want one now.

As a business model, a £2000 bike for £50 a day isn't bad. Until someone walks off with it.

I was 6 months ago, then took advantage of an On-One discount code and go myself a bargain. has been my go-to bike ever since.

One ride may not be enough to bring on the chubby love. You want to explore its full capabilities on the trail, mountain and beach. Unless you plan a full peak to ocean day.

Was, tried, not any more.

I like to ride light and fast for fairly long distances so not really suited to a play bike - guess if I lived somewhere sandy or snowy it would be more useful.

I am. I'd like to borrow one for about a month while I was on holiday somewhere cool.

I'm saving the pleasure, really.

🙂

im wiv AndyV on this one... my work commute on my oo on cyclepath was tedious...Ashton court was grintastic and going up a few stupid steep climbs was well fun.

If you like arsing about on bikes you'll love it ...if your obsessive strava man then probably not

So it seems that many who were Fat Curious have scratched the itch (most going on to a long term relationship, some leaving it there).

Only one so far who might be interested in a fat weekend.

(I didn't know about the others hiring them out, part of the thought was that on one wont do test rides!)

Voodoo are doing a £500 one that looks OK.

I'm definitely fat curious (like the term BTW) and haven't scratched that itch yet. Hadn't considered hiring one to try, but would do now, if I thought I could hire it for long enough in the right place(s) to get a good feel for it, at a reasonable price.

Totally fat-curious here, the main reason I've not really tried one is that I don't want to end up buying one really. So I'd not be a potential customer but I do like the idea.

Also, that should lead to an avalanche of people selling theirs. Specialized etc doing fatbikes was one thing but HalfordS? The niche has flown.

Probably upset the oldschool Voodoo fans calling it a wazoo too, perfect storm.

I've had my Pugsley for over 6 years. I'm always being asked to lend it out to fat curious....................

Just googled that, the Wazoo was a skinny tyres bike, genius! 😆

Looks to be pretty decent for the money, certainly better than the Go Outdoors boat anchor for only a 100 quid more.

The weight puts me off. So I'm curious for this... https://www.canyon.com/en/mountainbikes/series/dude-cf.html

i just took the plunge and got one without testing. got a Genesis Caribou. changed the tyres to on-ones, fitted a hi-lo dropper, zee brakes and some 'normal' bars so its not too alien... so much fun in the snow and on the dunes, but i dont enjoy taking it on a normal trail ride. i do get use out of it during the year tho - like taking the dog out in the woods and over boggy fields, and it also get used on family rides and i always do the school run on it on a friday with the tag-a-long attached. my little girls loves all the attention it gets!

I am, I really like the idea but I am not sure the majority of my cycling would be suited to one.

Doesn't stop me wanting one though 🙂

26lb for £1600 seems great for a fatbike.
enjoyed the onone in Canada.

my main issue would be riding with mates on 29erHTs, not sure I'd keep up on short fast rides

oh noes. I did really like how they were kinda special, like not everyone had one, but this is totally going to ruin it ha.

I was, bought one and love it. It's my go to bike, it somehow gives me extra confidence to ride off things I wouldn't even dream of going near. As for the noise, I just find it grin inducing, it's also great as people hear you coming, no need to ting ting on a bell, they have already turned round.

No. I know its hard to believe but I manage to have 'fun' on a more normal bike, which you'd think to be impossible from reading comments from fatties

I bought one before Christmas when they were £640 with the discount code (then added carbon forks, more tyres and stuff to pretty much make it full price).

Took a month or so to get used to it, there's a different kind of fitness needed. A bit like swapping road and MTB, a roadie would struggle to acclimatise to the short sharp hills off road and MTBers often struggle with climbs lasting >5min. But once you figure it out it's just a whole new challenge making some simple stuff difficult and difficult stuff a breeze. Hireing them out might get people curious, but I'm not sure I'd have bought one after my first hour. It was good fun but it was quite slow.

It's slower so you get fitter. I ride mine in a couple of 'social' paced rides a week 9they're only social if you're fit). 8ish mph, almost all singletrack. There's at least one fat bike in the fast group that average 12mph on the same trails. If you ride it regularly you get fit enough to match their pace, but it is a different fitness, in the first couple of weeks my average speed went from 6 to 8 mph as I learnt how to ride it and it's weird following people on skinny bikes as often your pedalling is completely out of sync, coasting where they sprint and pedalling where they coast.

I like to ride light and fast for fairly long distances so not really suited to a play bike - guess if I lived somewhere sandy or snowy it would be more useful.

I covered 30miles last night, not a huge distance, but it was just a mid week ride round the local bridelways, they'll tap out the miles just like any other bike as long as your legs keep spinning.

Yeah, stop telling us you're having fun on a bike that's different to mine. Ruining my day reading this read and having to post on it!
Not really love my Fatty but some people need to chill.

A bit curious myself, but don't want to drop any money on it yet...however, the Voodoo looks OK, and could be upgraded to 1x10 and a carbon fork pretty cheaply, and could be a 29er with a fat/notfat wheelset...hmm not talking myself into it, honest!
