Looking for new shoes, and like the look of these, but are they better for spd use??

I think you want the 56 for flats not the 66

As said above - 56's are non-spd. I have had the black version for 2 years and they are pretty good on flats, but I find the sole a little to flexy for long rides.
I generally use them in winter with some additional proofing at the front mesh bits and they do a good job of keeping ones feet dry.

they are good with dx flat pedals but i find they don't grip well on dmr pedals.
