[#3193927]

Im getting a nuke proof mega after having a rather mediocre bike, im thinking of getting fox 32 floats 150 RL i know the mega should really have 36s but trying to go around uphills on them is not reall that practicle i really dont think i will be able to feel the difference between the 32s and 36s as they will both be a million times better then what i get now so would fox 32 floats 150 RL for a mega for £399 worth it?

They'll be great. Sounds like a mega may not be the ideal frame though?
Are the forks QR or bolt through?

I think if you are going to get a Mega you should get the right forks for it. What kind of riding do you do, are you sure the Mega is the right bike for you? It's pretty beefy for a trail bike (says he with a Pitch with 36s and a coil shock 🙂 )

The mega is clearly the wrong frame.

I think you'd regret not getting the 36's, especially compared to a QR drop out 32 they'll be a million times stiffer.

Get some second hand 36 Vans or Floats off here for a similar price.

Although when you say DH what do you mean - are you gonna take it to the Alps/on uplift days etc?

Get a hardtail then. I ride a mix of things just like that, a hardtail is perfect, better than lugging around 6 inches of travel, especially on dirt jumps.

Hey davidtaylforth - fancy teaching me how to jump properly? Think you are not a million miles from me.

I am a girly-man when it comes to jumps. I can bring a hardtail and everything. 🙂

BTW do you know a guy called Adam who plays in a ska band? Done a couple of gigs with them, think they are from your neck of the woods.

nah defo not a hardtail had them for to long and to bumpy and probs just loal dh stuff nothing serious, the build im making is compromising on the up hill so better on the downs really i just thought that as the mega frame allows 150-170 mm of travel these forks would be ok?

I could have a go! But you know my friend Adam, he's better at jumps than me!

I just like to talk the talk on the internet, then mince around doing xc rides. I did do some jumps at glentress the other day though, and I managed at least a bar tweak. Thats the best place to learn I think.

Are there any spots near you?

Never ridden a Mega but i manage all my riding ok with 170mm coil Lyriks on my El Guapo.Had 160mm Marzocchis on my 456 till they bust too and even though they were adjustable I never bothered.I think you just get used to whatever you are riding and adjust your style accordingly. No problems keeping up with other riders on a whole range of bikes.
If you're getting a Mega you are surely more interested in the downs than the ups so go large !

If you've got one of them for jumps, why compromise on the mega build? Get it with some proper forks! OR buy a more suitable frame.

I have no idea why Davidtaylforth is so fixated on Megas needing massive forks. Designed for 150-170. And certainly not so limited a design that it can only work as a winch-and-drop bike.

I have actually ridden both and it's true! QR drop outs should really only be allowed on road bikes.

You'll probably gain a degree on your head angle too. And as davidtalyforh mentions they just don't look cool

That's why my big bike has Lyriks to be fair. They just look correct.

150 revs are great. It would seem a bit of a compromise to stick qr ones on a mega though. Try and find some with the 20mm maxle and if you're an average rider like me the only real difference you'll notice over the 36s is that the Revs are lighter and look a bit skinny. There were a set of 2010 Team Uturns in the classifieds a few days ago, which would maybe make the ups even easier. They're the best forks I've ever owned.

Cheers 🙂 Mebbe I'l give Adam a shout sometime soon and see if you're about too. I don't know any good spots near me - there used to be one but it seems to be dead now and most of the jumps are knackered. Yeah the freeride park at Glentress has some nice easy ones, wish there was something like that nearer.

To the OP - you really don't want QR forks on a bike like that surely.

Lyriks? Coil ones at that - easy to service, dead simple to work on yourself. Plenty of parts available.

I have some and love them.

35mm but great for DH stuff that I occasionally dabble with.

36s, but I'd double-check reports of Megas cracking before investing in one. I've heard they're lasting a matter of weeks or less in the Alps.

What about a pair of Domains? There's obviously a weight penalty, but they're strong as hell, have a 20mm axle and they're adjustable from 115mm to 160mm for longer climbs. They're also super cheap, I paid £310 for mine. They're going on my Mega when it arrives - I'll be slower going up, but faster going down!

get one of the Rock Shox offerings.

fox will only wear real quick and are not as easy to service as RS, ime. and they need servicing more often than RS.

Running 36 Float RLC's on my mega and I wouldnt say they climb badly, tbh wish I had got some RC2s, I bought them off here for not much more than what you are looking at for the 32s.

Personally I would hold out for something with a 20/15mm bolt thru...

Dave.

I'm running 150, 15mm bolt through Revs on my mega. As above wouldn't go QR, but 150 is fine - I like to ride up and down 🙂 which this bike does pretty well. If you were planning on doing mostly DH oriented riding then maybe consider longer, but as it stands 150 makes it well balanced and quite frankly in this guise it's more than enough bike for most things.
