They're made in Taiwan, at least I think that was what it said on the box mine came in-can check later if you want as I still have the box.

Cheers fellas. Apart from the custom builders, does anyone still manufacture frames in the UK? Orange?

Ah yes, Enigma, there's one. Interesting that Pace's steel hardtails are made in the UK, I have my eye on a 104.

And yes, Orange make a lot (but not all) of their frames in Halifax. I think it's the hardtails they make in Taiwan; everything else is in-house. Happy to be corrected though.

Define 'made'.

There is a long commodity chain in the process of making a bike frame which will embed various activities in different countries. The important measure(s) is not the country where a process happens, but the country where the most value goes - alternatively, where most people are employed.

"Orange make a lot (but not all) of their frames in Halifax. I think it's the hardtails they make in Taiwan"

I think (or am under the impression from somewhere) that the P7 and R8 steel hardtail frames are UK made, hence the high prices/low value (frame only) compared to the competition

orange make all the monocoque frames in the uk but the rest are overseas. so i think the MIII is the only hardtail.

Updating this thread as I finally received a response from Pace on the 104...

"Designed, prototyped and final assembly here in the UK. but made in the far East."

Not sure that Oranges being made here in the UK is necessarily any mark of quality of craftsmanship (if that is what was being suggested). Have you seen the pictures of their workshop? They don't exactly inspire images of quality, efficiency or cutting edge fabrication processes.

Yeah to be clear I'm not suggesting a frame would be of a higher quality if constructed over here. I know there are a lot of very good frame builders in the Far East. I'd just get a nice fluffy feeling riding something that is completely home grown. Having said that, I'll be demo'ing a few hardtails on Sunday, none of which (I think) are made over here, so it's probably a moot point ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Fair point - the warm fluffy feeling is far more important than most people will ever like to admit!

You see how you '...can't get a response out of pace...' ?

Well, that'll be the same if you have a problem of any kind too.

I suspect there is an element of prioritizing going on

when i first got into mtb PACE were uber cool, RC100 syncros through axle bb/cranks, square tubes, one piece stem and steerers, magura brakes etc, made in uk,

now come back to mtb after a long time and PACE seem far from cool, more generic bikes, people slating them...

8)Hi all! It's been interesting reading your comments.
I've just bought a Pace; an RC100 that was made in England around 1990. I e-mailed the obviously very busy Pace people about the bike, asking questions that only they would know the answer to. To be honest I never expected an answer, as the bike is about 20 yrs old.
However, within a short time (only a few days) they came back with all the information I asked for plus more besides. From the tone of the e-mail they are obviously as bike mad as we are and happy to help where they can.
As one of you said, they've come back to making bikes; so maybe you should cut them some slack and allow them to grow.
The trouble is, we're a great country for knocking our own whilst praising the rest. If we lose what we have due to lack of support, we only have ourselves to blame.
P.S. although it's not usually my thing, I love the look of the fixy...

I always ring Pace and speak to Adrian himself had top class service from them for over 20 years, just a shame they don't make the old square frames now ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
