Just saw Hope pop up on Facebook showing off their new bronze colour.

They have a crank in the shit with bronze pedal threads and axle bolt. It's a bit blurry, but on the backside of the crank, I'm sure it says "carbon".

Well I guess shit is a carbon based material. Plenty abundant too.  But I suspect it would need some serious processing before it is suitable for crank construction.

Their winking emoji responses to the same questions on Instagram would suggest yes. No attempt to hide it. Looks good but presume it will be £400+!

It would make sense for them to release carbon cranks. Maybe rims too one day?

Weight is claimed to be around 487g with 32t chainring, and for comparison, its popular aluminum Evo crankset weighs in at 565g.

78g isn't a massive weight saving is it?

Like the bronze colour - pity it won't work on either of my bikes though, will have to stick with black lol

That makes my HB.916 build even more expensive.

Which is annoying, but it's also an imaginary bike, so doesn't make any actual difference.

Carbon cranks rarely seem to deliver much of a weight saving. I’ve surprised they’ve bothered. They are renowned for nice machined things, carbon cranks just look very generic (could easily slap on a Sram logo and no one would doubt it)

Just spotted this as well...

That's an updated frame innit? Extra lower idler, SRAM transmission. New lid on the butty box. I wonder if they fixed the rattling/ejection problem.

I'm interested in this.

As much as it irks me to say this after owning sixc cranks, but the era is cheaper, lighter and has a lifetime warranty.

78g isn’t a massive weight saving is it?

Research on fecal weights has found that a person's poop can weigh as little as 72 grams (about 2.5 ounces), or as much as 470 grams (about 16 ounces or 4 pounds). ⁴ The weight of your stool is mainly dependent on your diet and the frequency of your bowel movements.

You'd think STW would get the scoop on these being so close to Barnoldswick yet Pinkbike and several other sources beat them to the press release.

They’ll put a piece up on it in a day or two and close this thread like they do every time the forum starts discussing something before they do a write up.

I imagine Hope want the information where people will see it rather than restricting it to a bunch of beardy nerds in moleskin trousers whose only reaction will be "Ow Much???"

close this thread like they do every time the forum starts discussing something before they do a write up.

So annoying when they do that.

This is almost as disappointing as Intense when they went carbon for frames.

I don’t think they are stopping making the alu ones as, unlike Intense’s Alu frames, they aren’t bent out of alignment when they leave the factory.

Go easy. They're waiting for the printed version of the media release to arrive.

monkeyboyjc

Hopes new cranks have replaceable pedal inserts though….. Not sure it warrants the RRP though….

Hmm - normally, it's the carbon around the insert failing that kills carbon cranks. Does replaceable inserts help that in any way?

There was a suggestion when its been discussed before that it happens automatically. Yeh right...

Would this not be covered in Benji’s regular NBD feature of all the stuff that’s been released that week?

No unique story, so threads on specific things won’t be deleted?

I have *never* seen this happen

*EDIT*
Ah, they appear in the overview which I never look at, not in the bike or chat forums.
