[#7959571]

Buying new e4's and need to get some pads. I have a couple of sets of M4's kicking about and wondered if they are the same. Otherwise need to order some more for a big trip to alps very soon :-),

Cheers

HBSP323R (or HBSP323S for sintered) are Hope pads for "new" (i.e. 2013) E4 and Mono M4. The older E4 and M4 also use the same (sets of) pads as one another.

So yes - as long as your M4s are not the ancient ones which use 4 pads per brake.

Ay that expains a lot. Looking at some on ebay and they have two pairs of pads per brake. I just thought they were being lazy and not putting generic photo pads up.

Great thanks for that have some in the shed

They are the same even if the little pointed bit at the rear of the pad is missing.

I thought the e4 pad was deeper than the m4. Chances are they're backwards and forwards compatible but there is a subtle difference to be aware of.

Damn it. I gave a set of m4 pads away last week because at a quick glance they didn't look like the ones in my newer E4's.

Nope, the part numbers I gave above are Hope's - same pad exactly.

A mate says M4 pads don't fit as E4 calipers are deeper and the pin is further away from the disc? Don't know for sure as I gave him some old pads I had. Pretty sure the E4 pads sweep more of the disc than the M4's did. I always remember my M4 would leave a 3mm gap of unused disc on the inside of the track where his E4's touch it all.

Knew I wasn't imagining it:

Guessing Hope made a running change along the line?

Same; but different.

Red on is from the wife's Tech 2 evo M4. The black is from my Tech 3 E4

The new pads run deeper on the rotor and the caliper is a fraction taller to accommodate that. E4 pads will work in M4 calipers but some of the new pad will start to contact on the rotor arms rather than on the brake track. Only a couple of mm though.

Both superstar and uberbike list different pads for each.

Yes, the newer M4 pads are different to the newer E4 pads but they're backwards and forwards compatible. I don't think Hope sell the M4 pad anymore, they've expect you to use the E4 with either caliper.

Ah that makes sense. Yes, Hope definitely just do the one pad. Sounds like it's the E4 pad but will work with the M4 caliper, as you all said.
