I've got some 2016 rockshox pike rct3 solo air 140mm non-boost on my SolarisMax hardtail (presently set up singlespeed) and I'm very happy with the performance.
In particular I like the rct3 damper as the high compression damping setting is very helpful when gurning up steep climbs.
However, all my other bikes are now boost, and it would be useful to have this bike on the boost standard, so I can swap wheels around.
Also, I have a frame I intend to build up for my eldest which will need a 120mm fork
So.... My master plan is to procure some boost pikes, then if necessary swap around the dampers and air shafts so on my bike I end up with the boost spacing but retain the rct3 and 140mm travel.
Jnr. can have my present fork with whatever other damper I happen to get. I already have a 120mm solo air shaft.
Will this just work? Or am I entering a world of pain of parts incompatibility?
There's a bit of variation, some of the non boost forks have different thread on the top caps, so you might have issues there, might be possible to swap top caps from one damper to another to make it work, not sure.
RockShox Trailhead website/app is your friend. Enter the serial number you’ll find on the reverse of the fork crown into that, and check out the part numbers for the damper etc.
Initially though, there’s quite a lot of variations of air shaft and dampers, but you might get lucky.
air shafts I believe would be fine (although not convincing myself the foot bolts are the same). Dampers is a no as the top cap thread is different on boost and non-boost forks
