id rather not find out the hard way. How predictable is the ardent rac up front?

I found the normal ardent a little bit like the nobby nic ie. Unpredictable on the front

Faaaaaaark no, they're bloody bad enough in the back!

So much no! Especially in this weather! You may as well run slicks.

As always, depends what and where you are riding. My bikepacking 29er wheels are currently set up with Ardent front, Crossmark rear.

I know a compromise always has to be made, i dont mind doing so if the tyres are predictable i.e. with the nobby on front i must have crashed 10 times but never crashed with anything else on the front, they just let go with no warning at all

I expect them to be drifty in the mud but are they driftable?

I have purchased one for the rear already but was debating giving it a try on the front first but i dont want to crash!

Im probably end up ordering a forekaster 2.6 for the front, ive gone off the idea of a dhf or dhr

Ran them as a pair on my xc race bike. Exactly as expectedย  fast but not as fast as the real fast race rubber. Better grip than some and did the job. It all depends what it's replacing. I wouldn't run it as an every day tyre

Having run a 3c ardent race on the rear I can honestly say that I wouldn't consider using it on the front. It is a fast rolling tyre and I've no doubt that on an xc race bike it would be a good DRY weather option but I found it to lack grip when leaning the bike in turns, and found myself regularly losing the back end on dry trails where a pretty worn out hr2ย  would stick like glue
