I am looking to get a new set of wheels for my Rocky Mountain. I cant decide between Stan Arch or Flow rims, the will be setup with Hope Pro II hubs and either competition or Revolution spokes. Main use is rocky/rooty trails, a bit of 'light' DH so not sure I really need to go for the heavier Flows. Has anyone used either of these wheelsets, any opinion?
As for spokes, go for the comps. Sounds like you will break the revs easily.
If they're anything like the 355s I use, they will be brilliant. A bit of light DH sounds like you might be best going for the flows.
You should also consider mavic xm819s as well, though.
Yes only use revs on lightest builds IMO.
Not sure the lighter ones would be up to light DH. Ain't width a factor too?
I am currently using Mavic 719s which have been fine but I am hoping to do a bit more DH stuff and also want to go tubeless. I was going to go for the Flows but thought the 'aggressive XC' tag on the Arch sounded more like my kind of riding (dont really do many jumps and those that i do are limited to Innerleithen type stuff (not the huge 8ft thing or whatever it is)
flows. at 450g they are lighter than all of the comparable mavics and strong. the arch is a good rim, but the flow wins for weight vs durability
I've been thinking about a set Flow/Pro II Hoops myself to use on a 180mm freeridey bike for uplifts and Alps.
Anybody get experience of riding rocks and small/medium drops on the Flow rims?
I like to think I'm quite smooth, but have flat spotted my 719 rear riding at Ae. Are the Flows likely to be sturdier than that?
chakaping - have a look at this:

I have been using them for a while now.. done gaps, drops, and rock fest dh tracks... they are still as true as the day I got them. cant recommend them enough.
I've got both and if I was buying another set I'd go for the Flows every time. Flows are wider, still very light and, most importantly, are available as 'Hope Hoops' so you can get them cheaper than having an equivalent wheelset built up around the Arch rims.
flows. still lightish, great width = good tire shape and plenty tough for the riding you describe. you can also get them as one of hope 'hoops' options which saves a few quid. winstanleys had the best price last time i looked but that was a month or so ago.
Thanks Neil, I saw your write up before.
Looking at that and the other feedback I think I will give them a go.
