+1 to the e-plan
but seriously water works really well. feeling hungry down 2 pints of water, its free, good for you, helps you metabolize vitamins which is what your body is probably craving and fills you up

Know the difference between appetite and hunger...
As I say: "Appetite is desire, hunger is require"

I imagine most people haven't actually been hungry for sometime, as everyone eats when they feel like it, rather than when they actually get hungry.

same as above drink plenty if you need something snacky hand full of nuts will release energy slowly and keep blood sugar levels steady which stops you feeling hungry.

Dont eat sugary things as the dip in bloody sugar after causes you to want more.

On a serious note, I would suggest an appointment with an NHS Dietitian.

Funny though, I loved chocolate and it became a habit. I stopped buying it. After a week I didn't miss it and have no cravings whatsoever.

Don't overdo the water though, that can be dangerous.

You really want to do it?
..and you're not trolling?

Cut out one meal a day, and eat half what you eat now, get used to feeling hungry all the time and ride your bike every single opportunity you get.

...beware though...

I decided to get as light as I could when I was racing, and I gave it up after 6 months because I knew it was taking me somewhere I didn't really want to be; the sense of control, the sense of power over yourself, the power to deprive yourself is very, very addictive. I've had a look down Anorexia street, and I don't want to visit again...

Always have fruit to hand, Keep busy, drink water, ride lots (I'm currently up to 100+ miles per week from a high of 40ish) Don't shop hungry (you'll buy shite stuff) stay off the crisps, beer, chocolate etc. Aviod carbs in your evening meal unless your riding etc afterwards as you won't burn them off

You know what you need to do its just putting it in to practice. Appetite surppressents can be a slippery slope IMO.

Have a realistic goal, I'm trying to lose 1 stone before 24/12 at end of July.

Good luck fella.

bacon has a high salt content as does crisps and no nutritional value.
15 sugars is loads for the teas.

Have a look at this

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-blueprint-101/

Basically a low carb diet but it does seem to be supported by a lot of scientic evidence. Myself and 3 mates have all used it to good effect. Main benefit I found is that cutting out carbs does suppress appetite, something to do with regularising blood sugar levels, whatever the reason it's worked and 4 formally fat b*stards are not now quite so fat.

Oh and half your tea/coffee intake and cut the sugar out, also take skimmed milk in them (not semi). Also substitute one of the lunch time rolls for a piece of fruit and have nuts rather than crisps.

STAY OFF THE BEER ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜‰

thing is, thats not even a lot of food. If I weighed 22 stone and could only eat that id hang myself.
Do you drink loads of beer? you seem pretty active so I cant work out where the weight is coming from.
Good luck tho

We all have too much carbs in our diet. I very rarely have any with my evening meal, consider that having porridge for breakfast and a small sandwich for lunch is more than sufficient.

I was reading that fruit can really mess up blood sugar levels and you are actually better off eating more vegetables than fruit.

The fact that you recognise your eating habits can only be a good thing so I wish you well.

Try a real back-bone & not the plastic one you're using at present. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Get used to being peckish. Don't eat after 5pm.
No alcohol (obviously). Cravings tend to last 20-30 minutes, so snack on carrots, celery - that kind of thing & drink lots of water. If you food shop, then don't buy high fat / energy stuff meaning you won't eat it. Throw out what quick food you have so you are forced to plan meals better & start cooking properly. Avoid all bread.

Alcohol and tobacco are both appetite supressents.

something recently i've been doing is making my own smoothies. Just get a basic blender add fruit ( canned is fine but get with juice not syrip) add milk / or a bit of protein powder and nautral yogart or something as a base and whisk up. Best served after been in firdge for an hour.

You can add anything. Recently been making spinach and tropical fruit juice ones with milk.BTW 400grams of spinach is superb ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
Very filling and good engergizer to repalce beer in the evening with.Low in carlories, can be drunk at any time. etc etc

cbrsyd - just started something very similar to that. Carbs do seem to be the hunger trigger and it's good to know that it worked for you and your mates.

All I need to do now is get over the 1st few days of 'metabolic re-alignment' ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Ton - will pass on details if it works

Bejaysus, just imagine how busy the kebab shops would be a closing time if people weren't drinking beer then!
I'm big but not fat and I can eat what I like so I'm lucky and not really qualified to comment but, swapping the bacon buttie for fruit and cereal and cutting out the crisps would make quite a big difference. Set achievable goals with the beer, maybe only drink one night a week. I started having 1-2 pints after a ride one night a week on top of my dedicated "drinking night". It made quite a bit of difference to my fitness if not my weight!

Lots of fatties apparently have a difficulty distinguishing between thirst and hunger. They feel thirsty and eat more, so they feel even hungrier.

Maybe snake oil salesmen, oh sorry, dieticians, should try recommending water as a thinning supplement.

lots of lettuce/salad will fill you up. Bacon butty still tastes better though ......

I found that celery was great, especially if you combine it will Tabasco or some other fiery sauce. Really cleans out the tubes and fills you up at the same time. Best to avoid excess fruit as it tends to spike your blood sugar.
At the same time, many root vegetables are high in carbohydrate as they are the stores of fuel for the plant so stay away from carrots, potatoes etc.
You can't really go wrong with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber: all high in water content so little calorific weight. Those calories which you are consuming, make sure they come from "good" sources (as little refining as possible to whole grain, brown rice etc). Best of luck with it ton, or should you start calling yourself lb if it goes according to plan?!

Ton - are you being completely honest with yourself? I eat more than you have listed and I am just over half your weight. Mostly the wrong things too - eg I love pasta. Mind you, I rarely drink beer or cider -sticking to a glass of wind most evenings. Oh - get used to tea without milk or sugar too. I did this so I had less to carry when backpacking and it just takes a wee while.

to be fair, there's not many calories in wind.

Breakfast like a king
lunch like a prince

dinner like a pauper

and snacks are a few raw vegs and fruits

what is the opinion on the largest meal of the day being the last one
dont seem right

It's not - meals should get smaller as the day goes on, trouble is finding time for the 'king's breakfast' ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

The 'snacking on fruit' thing can also be overdone, if you want a low calorie snack the raw veggies are far better.

Anyway, back to OP - Ton, it wouldn't be too bad to stick with the bacon buttie brekkie: grill the bacon, no spread on the bread, bit of tomato and it's not that unhealthy.
You're more likely to last the day on scraps if you've had a decent breakfast. Don't 'punish' yourself, just 'treat' yourself more healthily ๐Ÿ˜‰

Taken from my recent posting on this thread:

Not sure if someone's mentioned this already, but you might like to consider this:

[img] [/img]

Seems capable of helping you lose fat as opposed to just weight/water, etc, and also enables you to change/understand your eating habits so as to keep it off.

I'm giving it a go for a month to see if I can lose a stone (and sustain it). Only difference is I'm carbing up a little before/during a ride. And I'll probably have the odd blow-out once a week or so. But I figure that because I vary my training enough (stamina, intervals, hills, etc) I'll make up the difference and generally lose/burn fat as well as improve definition and fitness.

...

See my post above. Cutting right back on non-exercise days, and eating only minimal before a session, e.g. peanut butter sandwich, banana, energy bar.

All others carbs/starches are out: sugar, cerals, breads, cakes, biccies, pasta, rice, potatoes, crisps, chocolate, pizza, beer, white wine ...

Hasn't been a problem so far (5 days in) because I don't miss any of them. Subsituted with more of the healthy stuff that I like eating anyway. I'm just curious to see if it works and how genuinely sustainable it is.

EDIT: oh yeah, and fruit's off the menu as well - substitute with vitamins. But the whole low-carb thing only applies in full while you're in the weight loss period, e.g. 4-6 weeks - you then introduce them on a balanced level thereafter. By then, your cravings, especially for the unhealthy carbs, should be either manageable or completely eradicated, hence enabling you to maintain size, shape and healthy diet.

I thought the same as druidh, to be honest. That may be a typical day's rations, but either the evening meal is massive, or the average intake is a lot higher somehow.

There was article in STW a couple of years ago which recommended making sure you were actually hungry each day. That seemed to be rather good advice. I don't have a weight problem, but I do eat some rubbish - almost always because I feel low rather than actually hungry.

Anyway, good luck with it. ๐Ÿ™‚
